Launch IntelliGolf on your Pocket PC by tapping on the IntelliGolf item on the Start menu. To start a new round, simply tap on the New Round button.

If you have scored other rounds, you may also resume them or delete them. The icons on the menu bar allow you to perform the following functions:

Scorecard Icon   View a scorecard for a completed round.
Notes Icon View the round notes for a completed round and your player notes.
Send Icon Send a completed round to another Pocket PC. To receive a round, course, or player from another Pocket PC, use the Receive menu on the Round menu.
Courses Icon View, edit, and send course scorecards.
Players Icon View, edit, and send players.
Delete Icon Delete a round.

Choose Course Screen.

2. Choose the Golf Course.

Choose an existing course from the list or tap on the New button.

Decide where you'll be teeing off from and set the Tees and Start choices appropriately.

IntelliGolf provides access to over 27,000+ signature courses in the IntelliCourse™ database. Using a scorecard from the database saves you from entering hole information at the course and makes round setup a breeze.
If you own the Birdie or Eagle edition software you can download courses to your Windows desktop from the Internet and use ActiveSync to transfer them to your Pocket PC. Click here to access the database.
If someone at the course already has the scorecard on their Pocket PC, they can send it to you via the infrared port.
If you have Internet access on your Pocket PC (for example via a wireless modem), you can download the scorecard directly to your Pocket PC. Just click on the Download Course item in the Round menu and use the IntelliCourse web interface to search for and download the course.

New/Edit Course Screen.
Tapping on the New button brings up this screen. A course name and at least one Tee name (e.g. Blue) are required. The other fields (e.g. Phone, City, State, etc.) are optional. You may enter information for as many as 5 tees.

If you wish to keep personal notes about a course (greens fees, driving directions, etc.), they can be entered by tapping on the button at the top of the screen.

Edit Tee Box.
Tapping on the    button next to a Tee name brings up this screen. It allows you to enter all the information about each hole before you begin your round. You can also enter the information as you play each hole on the course.

Note: If you own the IntelliGolf Birdie Edition, courses can also be entered on your personal computer or downloaded from our web site and then copied down to your Pocket PC. This saves you time at the golf course since all hole yardages, pars, and handicaps have been entered before you show up to the course.

To easily download any of the 16,000+ courses available from our Internet server, please click on the Courses tab located on the IntelliGolf Home Page. Select the desired State/Country of the course, double-click on it and then follow the simple download instructions. In addition, you can also upload your favorite courses for all IntelliGolfers to share. Upload instructions can also be found from the Courses tab.

Players Screen.

3. Add the Players.

For each player in your group, tap on a player box. This brings up a screen that allows you to "write" the player's name on the scorecard.

If you wish to count putts for a player, tap on the checkbox under putts. When putts are counted, IntelliGolf will also calculate how many greens were hit in regulation.

If any of the players are playing a different tee than you, you may select it here.

Normally IntelliGolf shows player's net scores and how many strokes they are over or under Par. Optionally, IntelliGolf can show British Stableford points (1 point for a Bogey, 2 points for Par, 3 points for a Birdie, etc.) for each player by checking the "Stableford scoring" checkbox at the bottom of this screen. This scoring is very popular in Europe.

Choose Player Screen.
This screen comes up to "write" a player's name on the scorecard. The Scorecard name is required, other fields are optional. You may also erase a player from the scorecard by tapping on the Erase button. To enter a new player, select <New Player> from the list.

If you would like to enter a player's handicap, you have three choices:

  1. Handicap
Use this selection to define a player's handicap.
  2. USGA Index
Use this selection for players that have a USGA Handicap Index. IntelliGolf will compute a course handicap for the golfer using the formula: Course Handicap = Index * slope / 113. IntelliGolf supports a men's and women's slope rating for each tee, so be sure to set the Sex field correctly if you are using this handicap choice.
  3. Average Score
Use this selection when a player does not have an established handicap but they have some idea of what their "average" score is on this course. IntelliGolf will compute a handicap using the formula: Handicap = Average Score - Course Par.
  4. EGA Index
Use this selection for players that have a Handicap Index issued by a European golf association. IntelliGolf will compute a course handicap for the golfer using the formula: Course Handicap = Index * slope / 113 + rating - par.

Games Screen.

4. Add the Side Games.

If members of your group have agreed to a friendly side game, add games here by tapping on the New button. If you're playing "just for fun", enter a wager of 0. This screen is also used to edit or delete games already being played.

For a full description of all of the games, click here.

New/Edit Game Screen.
Pressing the New game button brings up this screen. Choose a game, wager amount, and which golfers are playing. Skins can be scored with or without carryovers, and Nassau can be played with or without presses. Tap on the currency symbol to change what currency you wish to use for wagering.

The handicap strokes for each player are shown to the right of their names. Handicap scoring can be calculated one of four ways on an individual game basis:

  1. Handicap difference
  2. Full handicaps
  3. Handicap values
  4. No handicaps

When using the Handicap difference method, IntelliGolf subtracts the low handicap from all players' handicaps. The Handicap values choice lets you enter a handicap value for each player for just this game.

Hole Screen.

5. Enter Strokes, Putts and Hole Information.

This screen is where you enter the strokes and putts for the players as well as hole yardage, par and handicap information (if you have not already done so). Everything can be entered by tapping on the desired field and then tapping on the numbered buttons at the bottom of the screen.

Entering the scores shown is as easy as tapping on the 4, 1, 4, 2, 5, 2, 6, 2 buttons! A golf tee works great for this if you don't want to pull out the stylus.

If you are keeping score with stableford points and you wish to "ring" a hole for a player, tap on the zero button and IntelliGolf will automatically calculate a score that results in zero stableford points.

On the first hole, tap on the Start button when you tee off. IntelliGolf will automatically keep track of the elapsed time of your round in the upper right corner of the screen.

If you tap on a player's name or game score, a round scorecard or game scorecard will be shown for the player.

If during the round you need to edit player or game settings, use the Hole menu: IntelliGolf Menu.

Scorecard screen.

If you want to view a scorecard for all the players, tap on the icon on the menu bar.

Notes screen.

If you tap on the button on the menu bar, you can record notes for each hole on a course, for the whole course, for the round, or for your own personal swing notes. The course notes will appear every time you play this course again and your swing notes will appear every time you play. If you have the Birdie Edition, the round notes will appear on the scorecard when it is viewed on your PC or printed.

Honors screen.

If you tap on the icon on the menu bar, it will show you who has honors for a hole. On the first hole it allows you to set the honors order by tapping on the names of the players in the order they have teed off.

Multi-round stats.

If you tap on the icon you can view your historical stats for the current hole.

Shot Tracking screen.

If you tap on the box under the flagstick, it brings up this screen so you can track statistics for your drive, approach shot, chip, and first putt.

For drive, approach, and chip shots, you can mark whether your shot hit the fairway/green, or missed. If you missed, you can mark whether the miss was left or right and/or short or long (via the arrows).

To track sand save statistics, mark all chip shots from a bunker and mark "save" when you hit it on the green from the sand and one putt.

Game Points screen.

Tapping on the box second from the right for a player allows you to record points for gaming. This is where you select who the hole partners are for the game of Wolf and where you can record points for your Custom games (in this example "Barkies").

Distance Calculator Screen.

IntelliGolf includes a distance calculator to help you determine the distance to the green and your drive distances. The distance calculator is brought up from the hole entry screen by tapping on the icon in the command bar that looks like this:

You calibrate the distance calculator by measuring how many steps it takes you to pace off 10 yards or meters and then recording that number in the steps field provided.

To use the distance calculator: For each step you take, tap on the area at the bottom of the distance calculator window (you can do this with your index finger while you walk if you hold the device upside-down). When you're done pacing off the distance, tap whether you paced "from the mark" or "to it", and select which yardage marker you used. If you paced from a distance marker other than that shown (like a spinkler head), check the radio button on the far right and enter the distance in the field provided. IntelliGolf will then calculate how far it is to the green and how far from the tee. You can assign the distance from the tee as the drive distance for any of the players in your group.

To set a drive or approach shot distance, press the "Drive >" or "Approach >" buttons, respectively. This will bring up the Shot Tracking Screen with the distance entered.

Fivesome Hole Screen.

On those occations when you golf in a fivesome, the IntelliGolf hole screen adjusts accordingly.

IntelliGolf Scores.

IntelliGPS.

6. IntelliGPS® (Eagle versions only)

IntelliGolf provides the ability to view distances from tee-to-green with GPS accuracy using industry-leading GPS receivers. Plus, even if you don't own a GPS receiver, IntelliGolf's new IntelliGPS technology will automatically predict distances to key target locations (i.e. fairway markers, green, etc) for you from the Tee Box. As such, you don't have to own a GPS receiver to start enjoying the benefits of IntelliGolf today. Just tap on the "satellite icon" at the bottom of the main scoring screen and start viewing IntelliGPS distances immediately. Club selection has never been easier.

IntelliGPS Survey.
Plus, if your favorite golf course's GPS coordinates aren't uploaded yet, you can use IntelliGolf's handheld/smartphone GPS survey screen (and a GPS receiver) to quickly enter GPS coordinates "during" your round of golf. Or, you can use our Internet-based Course Survey Editor (CSE) to survey your favorite course(s) "before" your round of golf, using Google Earth, from the comfort of your own home). The choice is yours!

For detailed instructions on how to set and GPS-survey your favorite course(s) please click here.

To survey the course you are currently playing using your handheld/smartphone, simply tap on the Record button as you reach the 200, 150, and 100 yard/meter markers, any of three custom fairway points (e.g. creek, sand trap, lake, etc) per hole, and the front, center, and back of the green. IntelliGolf will record these GPS coordinates for you and automatically convert them into distance readings. It's that easy.

IntelliGPS Setup Screen.
The first time you access the GPS distance screen you will need to configure IntelliGolf to use your GPS receiver. Tap on the Setup button.

For detailed instructions on how to setup IntelliGPS click here.

IntelliGPS Setup Screen.
Most GPS receivers output information in NMEA format and IntelliGolf requires devices that are NMEA compatible. For a list of GPS receivers that have been certified to work with IntelliGolf click here.

The most common way for IntelliGolf to communicate with your GPS receiver is to choose the Direct connection device choice. On newer devices that support sharing a GPS device among several running applications, you may choose GPS multiplexer. Please consult your device manual for instructions on setting up the GPS multiplexer.

IntelliGPS Setup Screen.
Use the same port that your other GPS enabled software uses. If you are not sure what that port is then start with the highest port number in the IntelliGolf GPS setup screen and work backwards. After selecting the port tap on the OK button and you will be returned to the IntelliGolf GPS distances screen. If the port could not be opened you will see "GPS data is not being received for this device setup". It may take 30 or more seconds for this text to be displayed if not the correct port selection. If you do see this message tap on the Setup button and select the next lower port number.

Some implementation of Bluetooth on Pocket PC's will list multiple Bluetooth ports. If you are not sure which Bluetooth port to use just pick one and if it does not work select the other(s) until you have selected the port that works with IntelliGolf.

If you are using the GPS multiplexer, IntelliGolf will show the port that your device is using to share a GPS device. If "Not configured" is shown, your device has not been properly configured, or it does not support this feature.

GPS setup will only need to be done once as IntelliGolf will remember your selections for future sessions.
